| Brain Gender Identity - Why we are, Who we are What is the medical evidence for gender variance being associated with the prenatal formation of our brains? There is strong evidence that the numbers of hormonal receptors are different in male and female brains. Research has shown chromosomal differences in gender variant individuals. Is the feminized or masculinized brain determined by differences in brain hormonal receptors before the sex hormones are released prenatally? New research in pre-hormonal transsexuals has shown that they think atypically in listening, memory tasks, and smelling; with brain activation resembling that seen in heterosexual women. | Dr. Sidney Ecker |

| Early Transgender Underground Networks The workshop highlights the fact that prior to the 1960's there were no national or regional organizations of transgender persons, yet for at least two centuries prior such individuals found ways to affiliate with others who were expressing transgender behavior. These informal gatherings or exchanges of ideas were often in violation of the law. From the Molly Club of London at the time of the American Revolution to the females who served as men in both armies during our the American Civil War, transgender people have historically invented ways to support one another. These activities culminated in 1960, when Virginia Prince began the publication of Transevestia Magazine. | Dr. Richard Docter ![]() |
