How to Move Transgender-Inclusive Legislation & Effect Progressive Public Policy Change

This workshop is intended to help those who are interested in doing work on transgender-specific and transgender-inclusive legislation and public policy understand the legislative process and move legislation and policy change. The focus of the workshop will be the state and local levels -- both in New York and other states -- but federal-level work will also be addressed if participants are interested in doing so.

Pauline Park
Pauline Park (paulinepark.com) currently serves as chair of the New York Association for Gender Rights Advocacy (nyagra.com), which she co-founded in 1998. Park led the campaign for the transgender rights law enacted by the New York City Council in 2002 and negotiated inclusion of gender identity and expression in the Dignity for All Students Act, currently pending in the New York State Senate. In 2005, she became the first openly transgendered grand marshal of the New York City Pride March. Park did her Ph.D. in political science at the University of Illinois. She has written widely on LGBT issues and has conducted transgender sensitivity training sessions for a wide range of organizations. Park was the subject of Envisioning Justice, a documentary about her life that premiered in 2008.
